Hypothesizes that this is partly because of the traditional female gender role where women prepare food. Discusses the social aspect of eating. Explains that men use food as a means of showing or soliciting affection as well. Associates food in dating as an indicator of how competent each spouse will be in taking care of the other and of children in married life.
